Grace Hughes
General Manager/Composer
Grace Hughes Grace Hughes is a composer, artist, violinist, and Ecce’s Assistant Director. She aims to create music that can be described as ethereal, fluid, and harmonically colourful. She aims to create mixed media works, often incorporating painting or electronics into her music. Her music has been performed by the Ecce Ensemble in Massachusetts, Omnibus Ensemble in Ukraine, the Balagan Duo in Maryland, and by leading soloists across the U.S.
Grace earned her BM in Composition at the Peabody Institute at the Johns Hopkins University in 2023, studying with Oscar Bettison. Earlier in her career as a musician, she studied violin performance with Ivan Stefanović and has performed jazz violin at the Key of She Jazz Festival in Philadelphia, attended the National Music Festival, and has won first prize at the Iowa State Fiddle Competition.
In 2021, she was a fellow at the Etchings Festival in Northampton, MA, where she worked with members of the Ecce Ensemble on a piece titled Three Miniatures on paintings by Mark Rothko. She later returned in 2022 to Northampton to assist the ensemble with recording works of Trevor Weston, and has since served as the ensemble's General Manager. She is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Composition at the New England Conservatory in Boston, MA.
